Public Party Celebrating the Gnome Saturday, June 30, 2007 at 3:00 PM

Kelder’s Farm and Homegrown Mini-Golf are pleased to announce that our gigantic garden gnome has received a Guinness World Record proclaiming it the world’s tallest. The 13’6” gnome, located on Kelder’s Farm, gazes out over Route 209 between Accord and Kerhonkson, 2 hours north of New York City.
~~~ A public party will be held on Saturday, June 30, to celebrate the record. From 3:00 p.m. to dusk, there will be live old-time and pop music by local bands, hayrides and mini-golf. Everyone is invited to come, bring a picnic basket or enjoy food hot from the grill or from the barn market.
~~~ Last August, the farm held a qualifying event required by the Guinness Company to prove our claim. Local experts, people of repute, journalists and photographers were requested to witness the official measurement of the gnome, including~ Mark Brown, leader of country/rock band Uncle Buckle and composer of “Bucket Truck,” a ballad about Route 209, our roadside home; Lolly Chase, President of the Kerhonkson-Accord Chamber of Commerce; Bruce Davenport, farmer and President of the Rondout Valley Growers; Pam Duke, Supervisor of the Town of Rochester; Iain Matchell, President of the Ulster County Arts Council; Head of the Visual Arts Department, SUNY Ulster; Richard Parete, Ulster County Legislator, District 3 and David Work, chef; President of Mid-Hudson Mycological Association, a group of mushroom enthusiasts. The Guinness application was successful and in the spring a fancy certificate arrived in the mail from
England!
~~~ Chomsky-—as the gnome is known around the farm—often holds a bouquet of fresh garden flowers, though he has been known to sport a life jacket (after the April floods) or a tangle of holiday lights. He has already gained the affection of the neighbors—members of the 4-H even made him a scarf when he looked cold over the winter. He is the brainchild of Maria Reidelbach, who worked with fellow artists Ken Brown and John Hutchison to create the concrete giant.
