Valentine’s Day Dance Party
Fundraiser for Nico Perretta 12-YEAR-OLD Accident Victim

The Valentine’s Dance and bake sale is Wednesday, February 14 from 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm here at the Community Center. A $5 donation is requested, and bake goods are happily accepted. Two of our kids will be playing at the dance, guitarist, Josh Dewoody, and drummer, Stephanie Rzesewewicz. Both are winners in talent shows from past Jennie Bell Pie Festivals. Come dance to the music and enjoy free refreshments, while having lots of fun. Children are encouraged to bring their favorite CDs and tapes. Call Youth Commission to signup: 626-2115.
Here at the Town of Rochester Youth Department After School Program we know how great our kids are, but we were thrilled to find out we have heroes. On January 9, kids were playing near the Accord Post Office on Main Street, when one of the boys, Nico Perretta age 12 started running across the street and was hit head on by a van and knocked unconscious with multiple injuries. And that’s when Leon Decker (15), and Tom Bauer, (16) sprung into action for their friend. Leon immediately ran to call 911 and get a blanket, and Tom felt Nico’s pulse, feeling none, put his ear to his mouth to see if he was breathing; terrified that Nico was dead. Just as he was feeling for his curative artery, Nico’s eyes started to flutter, and he started to thrash around. Tom knew to keep him still and warm until help arrived, while Leon did traffic control.
These boys did the right thing, possibly saving Nico’s life. Nico was airlifted to Westchester Hospital. Added note: Nico is home with a long road ahead, and Leon and Tom were honored for their heroism at Town Hall on February 1.

4-H Cool Kids Project “Walk In My Shoes” Plans a Pancake Breakfast for community Senior Citizens on April 3, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at the Town of Rochester Community Center.
The 4-H Cool Kids ages 5-11 are planning a project called “Walk In My Shoes”. The program will help kids learn what it is like to grow old and the changes our bodies make as we do. The pancake breakfast is just one of the activities planned to reach out to the senior community. The Cool Kids are hoping that after breakfast some of the seniors will share stories of how life was when they were young.
4-H meetings are the second and fourth Wednesdays of the month for April, May, and part of June at 4:00 pm at Rochester 2 Firehouse. For information call Lisa at 626-2558.

Call Youth Commission to signup: 626-2115. There will be no sign-ups accepted after March 31. Please signup your child by age group:
1-2 years: 12:30 sharp! (Child must walk on their own.) Parents cannot pick up eggs for them.
3 - 4 years: 12:45 parent are not allowed in hunt area; 5 - 7 years: 1:00 PM; 8 years and up: 1:15 PM. Handicapped may choose most accessible area. Please arrive prior to your scheduled hunt-time to sign in under the pavilion, and receive a chance to win a prize. Remember to bring your own basket or bag for the hunt. Parents with more than one child in different age groups may wish to bring an extra person to help the children get to their designated spot on time for their hunt.
Bring your camera, as the Easter Bunny will be hopping in as our special guest. Key Bank of Kerhonkson employees will be on hand to welcome the Easter Bunny and join in the festivities

“Adopt A Road”
Join us on both Saturday Earth Days for a community clean up of our roads. Last year, many area residents, town officials, and organizations volunteered their time to clean up area roads. The cleanup was a huge success. Why not plan a “Block or Street” cleanup with your neighbors? Along with adopt-a-road volunteers, we also need volunteers to pickup and deliver to the Transfer Station throughout the day. Arrangements will be made for Group Leaders to pick up Orange Bags at the Community Center prior to Earth Day. Please signup your road(s) by calling Youth Commission at 626-2115.
Cub Scouts Pack 22 is looking for donations of used uniforms and accessories for the newly formed Consignment Shop located at Kerhonkson Fire Hall. Your donation can help a child experience the Scouts by donating an outgrown or one no longer needed uniform. Call Donna at 626-4981 to donate or information.
December 2006 is just a memory, but a fun one, nonetheless. A few highlights: Our holiday tree lighting was held amidst a horrendous storm. Supervisor Duke did light the tree if only for a moment as lightning was doing its own show. During torrential rains, and thunder and lightning the lights were knocked out in the entire building making it a definite night to remember. In spite of everything we did some caroling by auxiliary lighting and enjoyed hot cocoa. Bell’s Christmas Trees of Accord donated the blue spruce last year to “grow” into this annual event.
Our annual Senior Holiday Brunch was held with about 75 people being served lots of delicious vittles. Andrew Neidhardt was honored with a much-deserved Friend Of Youth Award for his outstanding qualities in working with youth as well as volunteering, plus his scholastic and
musical abilities.
Our holiday party that followed the brunch made over 120 kids happy as they received presents from Santa and Mrs. Claus, decorated cookies, and did crafts. We also worked with Commitment To Kids to make sure Santa made it to many other children in need. The need has sadly grown tremendously having most organizations as well as us, completely tapped out. So please keep this in mind throughout the year, and pick up toys or children’s winter clothing on sale and keep them for next holiday season to share with kids in need. We’d gladly accept new and unwrapped items throughout the year in hopes of making lots of kids smile next holiday season, which as you know, will arrive sooner than later for sure!
We thank The Elks Lodge, Rondout Valley Student Council, Marbletown Youth Department, Kerhonkson Elementary, the Pinegrove Ranch, Rochester Reformed Church for their donations of either food baskets or toys and clothing.
